The study presents the results of the research undertaken by the GLEAN partners with the aim to investigate methods, formats and topics used by institutions, organisations, associations and other players in civil society to promote acquisition of self-awareness and personal development in NEETs. Εxamples and descriptions were collected from 17 European countries, offering a meaningful overview about running practices to involve NEETs through agriculture.
Following a brief overview on the topic and the concept of NEET and the situation in Europe, with a focus on the countries of the consortium, where the NEET Employability/Entrepreneurship Training Programme under development will be tested, a description of the adopted methodology and related tools for practices collection is made. Findings and examples of the review exercise are presented and overall conclusions and recommendations for the design of the GLEAN programme are drawn. Click here for the full study and here for the related GLEAN practices database.
A presentation was made in Jaén, Spain of the NEET Employability / Entrepreneurship Programme (NEEP), a transversal learning programme for the development of technical and soft skills aimed at young people, focusing on learning the job in the agricultural field.
The programme, developed under the Erasmus+ co-funded GLEAN project, will be implemented with the participation of 15 young people and a duration of 700 hours. As stated by Christopher Cano, Council Member responsible for Agriculture and the Environment, "this meeting will serve to present the training project aimed at young people of Castle Alcaudete Locubín, Friars and Alcala la Real. This is a new training opportunity in Alcalá, where the agricultural sector has so much potential, and important synergies with companies can be established in this direction".
The 3rd GLEAN project meeting was held in the city of Thessaloniki in Northern Greece hosted by renowned project partner American Farm School. Partners discussed the structure and the e-learning platform of the NEET Employability/Entrepreneurship Programme (NEEP), one of the main objectives of the project, measured progress and decided the next steps in the development of the NEEP. Focus groups with stakeholders of the GLEAN project targets groups, namely NEETs, VET trainers, agriculturalists, farmers and farmers’ associations, policy makers and others, were held with great interest and success in the three project target countries (Greece, Italy and Spain) greatly affected by the NEETs issue. Partners presented and discussed the structure, initial content and training framework of the NEET Employability/Entrepreneurship Programme (NEEP) in view of registering multiple stakeholders’ input and feeding it into the development of the final NEEP to better address the needs of the end users.
The GLEAN research database hosting more than 30 practices on Promoting Employability & Entrepreneurship in Agriculture from all over Europe was launched.
The database has been developed mainly through desk research by all members of the GLEAN project consortium, which count valuable expertise in the related topics. The database lists valuable European practices while confirming the added value of the GLEAN project and the NEET Employability/Entrepreneurship Programme (NEEP) that it is developing.
Access the Eurofound report analysing the labour market situation of young people in Europe, with a specific focus on NEETs (young people not in employment, education or training), a direct target group of the GLEAN project. It examines the determinants of belonging to the NEET group, and measures the economic and social costs of NEETs. It also assesses how Member States through policies and interventions have sought to support young people to gain a foothold in the labour market. It shows that successful policy initiatives address specific, disadvantaged subgroups in the NEET population. They are client-centred in their efforts to set young people on a pathway to long-term, sustainable employment and they are innovative, adopting new ways of reaching a target group. See more here.
The 2nd GLEAN project meeting took place in Jaén, Spain hosted by project partner Diputación Provincial de Jaén. The team met to discuss project progress, examine the work plan, finalise the methodology for the development of the GLEAN research database of practices on Promoting Employability & Entrepreneurship in Agriculture from all over Europe and decide the next steps of the project.
Partners were also shown around local agricultural best practices, discussing successes, challenges and the prospects of employability of young NEETs in the agricultural field, which were confirmed as very promising. GLEAN is progressing in developing the NEET Employability/Entrepreneurship Programme (NEEP), a learning pathway blending theory with on-the-field training for increasing employability in agriculture for NEETs. “..Who are NEETs? Strictly speaking, NEETs are young people who are “Neither in Education nor in Employment or Training”. Why is everybody talking about them? Perhaps because the idea of NEETs is vague enough to allow for all-encompassing interpretations of the challenges facing young people…”
The GLEAN project kicked off in Bologna with great success. The project team from Italy, Spain and Greece, namely three countries greatly affected by the NEETs (people not in education, employment or training) issue, discussed the details of the project, next steps and plan of cooperation. Next steps include delivering a research database on practices for promoting employability and entrepreneurship in agriculture in Europe, developing the structure of the NEET Employability/Entrepreneurship Programme (NEEP), a transversal learning programme for the development of technical and soft skills of young NEETs to support career paths in agriculture, and testing it with representatives of target groups in the three countries.
